Painted Penguin rocks

Step by step photos on how to paint a Penguin on a rock.

Penguin rocks are the cutest characters ever and quite quick to paint. You can create your penguin on either a dark or light rock and the rocks should be flat and oval in shape. Follow these steps and I’ll show you how. You’ll need Jet Black, Lily White, Nasturtium Orange. If you would like to add extra details like pink cheeks and flowers, you may need some additional colours.

Painted penguin rocks tutorial step 1 — Step one Find some smooth, flat, oval pebbles and divide them into light coloured stones and dark coloured stones

Painted penguin rocks tutorial step 2 — Step two If the light ones are very light, leave them as is, if they are a bit muddy in colour, give them a thin quick coat of Lily White paint with a flat brush. The coverage should be thin so that the rock texture still shines through

Painted penguin rocks tutorial step 3 — Step three The dark pebbles don’t need any undercoat, so go ahead and mark out an oval shape which has the top of a heart shape at the top, and two arms / flippers. Use a white or light pencil on dark rocks

Painted penguin rocks tutorial step 4 — Step four On the light rocks, once the undercoat is dry, mark out the oval, heart and flipper shapes using a pencil

Painted penguin rocks tutorial step 5 — Step five On the dark rock, fill in the inside area using Lily White paint, allow to dry

Painted penguin rocks tutorial step 8 — Step six Apply a second coat of Lily White paint. Once dry, add a third coat if needed

Painted penguin rocks tutorial step 6 — Step seven Back to the light rocks, paint the outside area using Jet Black paint, allow to dry and give a second coat of black if needed

Painted penguin rocks tutorial step 7 — Step eight Turn the light coloured rocks over and paint the back with Jet black paint. Once all the paint is dry, erase your pencil lines on both sets of rocks

Painted penguin rocks tutorial step 9 — Step nine If you would like to add a pink blush to the cheeks, use a little Watermelon Red paint mixed with lily White paint and blend in using additional white paint

Painted penguin rocks tutorial step 10 — Step ten Paint tiny black dots for the eyes using either a fine brush or a dotting tool. You can use jet Black straight from the pot

Painted penguin rocks tutorial step 11 — Step eleven To paint the beaks, use Nasturtium Red and paint a tiny heart using a fine brush

Painted penguin rocks tutorial step 12 — Step twelve You can add some detail to the penguins by painting little sprigs of lavender, flowers or leaves, but they look just as cute without
